KENT NEWS: Police have warned people not to let cold callers into their home after a man posing as a plumber stole money from an elderly woman.

The con-artist knocked on the door of the pensioner, who is in her 70s, and told her that he had been sent to fix her taps.

After letting him into her home in Alder Way, Swanley, he went round several rooms before saying he had to leave. The woman then found money was missing from her handbag.

Det Sgt Ben Turner said: “It’s very easy to be taken in by the excuses distraction burglars use. Our advice is never let anyone into your home if you’re not expecting them.

“If in doubt ring the police, the genuine caller will understand.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police on 01732 379217, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or to email appeals.westkent@kent.pnn.police.uk
