Sporting Bengal United 0 Sevenoaks Town 3
Sevenoaks are up to third in the Kent League Premier Division after a scrappy win over Sporting Bengal United on Saturday.
With results going their way elsewhere, Town were able to climb to their highest-ever league placing since winning promotion from the County League in 2002/03.
John Maloney opened the scoring on the half-hour mark in Mile End with his first goal for the club and Tony Atkins, poaching at the far post, made it 2-0 in the 43rd minute.
Atkins felt he should have had a penalty early in the second half but Sevenoaks were awarded a spot-kick soon after when Danny Ward was tripped in the box.
Danny Twin stepped up to score from 12 yards and although Daniel Akpoveta and Badar Mohamed missed late chances to increase the score, Sevenoaks left London delighted with their day’s work.
Next up for Simon Jones’s side is the first leg of their Premier Division Cup semi-final at home to Beckenham Town tomorrow night (Tuesday). Kick-off at Greatness Park is at 7.45pm.
Sevenoaks: Funnell, Bayram, Twin, Maloney, Cook, Walker (Creasey 60), Johnson, Ward, Josephs (Mohamed 81), Atkins, Shinners (Akpoveta 79)
